Go To Top Of PageRegistration
Go To Top Of PageI registered but can not login.

Registration is a 3 step process.

  1. Fill out the registration form.
  2. The webmaster reviews the submission and verifies that you are an Anneslie Resident. Then approves the registration.
  3. You are sent an email to tell you the account is approved and to verify that you have supplied a valid address. Click the link in that email to complete the registration.

That's it. You can now login and begin using all the members only features.

Go To Top Of PageDo I have to register?

No. You do not need to register to use this site...however certain information is restricted to members only. Features of the site like email addresses for board members and block captains are not displayed; and features like personal messages, posting in the community forum, posting classified ads, participation in community polls, and many others are limited to use by members only.

The information you provide during registration is not outsourced or used for any advertising by Anneslie Community Forum, the Anneslie Board or anyone for that matter. IT IS PRIVATE.

If you believe someone is sending you advertisements as a result of the information you provided through your registration, please notify us immediately.

Go To Top Of PageI click agree, but the Policy page just refreshes. What's wrong?

There is a known issue with this forum and Norton's Internet Security. This problem only affects the registration process.

To register:

  1. Disable Norton Internet Security on Your PC.

  2. Agree to the Maryland APA Policy (It should work now).

  3. Complete the registration process and submit the form.

  4. Re-enable Norton Internet Security.
  5. Check your email for the Activiation/Confirmation Email and follow the directions in it.
That's it....you're registered. Norton Internet Security does not affect any other aspect of this website.

If this does not work please contact the anneslie webmaster ASAP and we will take care of it.

Go To Top Of PageI registered but did not receive the Activation/Confirmation Email?

Members who registered and did not receive the "Activation/Confirmation" email should contact us ASAP to have their accounts activated.

All accounts are manually approved to ensure that only Annslie Residents gain access to the forum and members features of the site. Therefore if a street address and phone number were not supplied your activation email may not have been sent and we will contact you to verify you live in Anneslie.

However, sometimes our activation email will be filtered as spam. If that is the case we will activate your account as soon as we hear from you.

Accounts will only be activated if you contact us using the email address that was supposed to receive the "Activation/Confirmation". NO EXCEPTIONS! This keeps a valid email on record with the website at all times. It is necessary to retrieve a lost password.

Go To Top Of PageI'm already a member of the listserve...why should I register here?

The listserve is not going anywhere. It will still be maintained for everyone who wants to use it. New members will still be approved.

Merits of both systems exist. The listserve is a quick and effective way of contacting members of the neighborhood. It is most useful for one-time or short term situations.

However there are many members who use the listserve for only high-priority messages and never see these emails.

The forum is better suited to longer term discussions, such as Pursuing A Historical Designation for Anneslie, or what can be done about traffic problems on our streets.

These discussions will likely take months while everyone reads and forms an opinion. There are polls on the new site that only members can vote in and it gives the Community Associaiton a better idea of what neighborhood opiniion is.

The forum also allows us to show and hide content based on membership. Phone numbers and other perosnal information is protected and visible only to members. This will allow us to great an online Anneslie Directory.

The website is also a work in progress. We would like your opinion on what the site can be used for and these new features will be incorporated into the site.

Go To Top Of PageLost Password

Go To Top Of PageWhat is COPPA?

The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act and Rule apply to individually identifiable information about a child that is collected online, such as full name, home address, e-mail address, telephone number or any other information that would allow someone to identify or contact the child. The Act and Rule also cover other types of information -- for example, hobbies, interests and information collected through cookies or other types of tracking mechanisms -- when they are tied to individually identifiable information. Go To Top Of PageWhat are active topics?

Active Topics are tracked by cookies. When you click on the "active topics" link, a page is generated listing all topics that have been posted since your last visit to these forums (or approximately 20 minutes).

You may set a custom time frame for active topics by selecting the "Active Topics" link in the forum menu at left. Then select the time frame to view all new posts during that period.

Go To Top Of PageCan I be notified by e-mail when there are new posts?

Yes, the Subscription feature allows you to subscribe to the entire Board, individual Categories, Forums and/or Topics, depending on what the administrator of this site allows. You will receive an e-mail notifying you of a post that has been made to the Category/Forum/Topic that you have subscribed to. There are four levels of subscription:

- Board Wide Subscription
If you subscribe to an entire Board, you'll get a notification for any posts made within all the forums inside that board.

- Category Wide Subscription
You can subscribe to an entire Category, which will notify you if there are any posts made within any topic, within any forum, within that Category.

- Forum Wide Subscription
If you don't want to subscribe to an entire Category, you can subscribe to a single forum. This will notify you of any posts made within any topic, within that forum.

- Topic Wide Subscription
More conveniently, you can subscribe to just an individual topic. You will be notified of any post made within that topic.
Each level of subscription is optional. The administrator can turn On/Off each level of subscription for each Category/Forum/Topic.
To Subscribe or Unsubscribe from any level of subscription, you can use the "My Subscriptions" link, located near the top of each page to manage your subscriptions. Or you can click on the subscribe/unsubscribe icons (Subscribe UnSubscribe) for that Category/Forum/Topic you want to subscribe/unsubscribe to/from.

Go To Top Of PageSignatures

You may attach signatures to the end of your posts when you post either a New Topic or Reply. Your signature is editable by clicking on "profile" at the top of any forum page and entering your Username and Password.

We may add features in the future that will allow for specific file uploading like photos for personal galleries.

Go To Top Of PageCreating a Hyperlink in your message

You can easily add a hyperlink to your message.

All that you need to do is type the URL (http://anneslie.org/forum/), and it will automatically be converted to a URL (http://anneslie.org/forum/)!

The trick here is to make sure you prefix your URL with the http://, https:// or file://

You can also add a mailto link to your message by typing in your e-mail address.

This Example:
webmaster@anneslie.org
Outputs this:
webmaster@anneslie.org

Another way to add hyperlinks is to use the [url]linkto[/url] tags

This Example:
[url]http://anneslie.org/forum/[/url] takes you home!
Outputs This:
http://anneslie.org/forum/ takes you home!

If you use this tag: [url="linkto"]description[/url] you can add a description to the link.

This Example:
Take me to [url="http://anneslie.org/forum/"]Anneslie Community Forum[/url]
Outputs This:
Take me to Anneslie Community Forum
This Example:
If you have a question [url="webmaster@anneslie.org"]E-Mail Me[/url]
Outputs This:
If you have a question E-Mail Me

You can make clickable images by combining the [url="linkto"]description[/url] and [img]image_url[/img] tags
This Example:

Go To Top Of PageHow do I post a new topic in the forum?

To create a new topic in the forum you must first find the appropriate category to post it in. Taking time when choosing a category is essential if you want people to find your post and reply to it.

Once you've found a location for your topic look for the new topic icon () in the right column and click it.

You must give your post an appropriate title. Again please give your post a descriptive title so members know what your post is about without opening it. Once you've finished entering the body of your post click on submit and you're done.

You may edit or delete your posts at any time.

Go To Top Of PageCan I edit or delete my posts?

Yes. You may edit or delete your own posts at any time. We recognize there are many reasons to do this.

Editing or deleting a post can be done by going to the topic and looking for the edit or delete icon ( / ) on the line that begins "posted on..." Click on this icon to edit or delete your post.

No one else can edit or delete your posts except for the Forum Administrators or Forum Moderators. A note is generated at the bottom of each edited post displaying when and by whom it was edited.

Go To Top Of PageWhat does it mean if a forum has Moderation enabled?

Moderation: This feature allows the Administrator or the Moderator to "Approve", "Hold" or "Delete" a users post before it is shown to the public.

- Approve: Only the administrators or the moderators will be able to approve a post made to a moderated forum. When the post is approved, it will be made viewable to the public.

- Hold: When a user posts a message to a moderated forum, the message is automatically put on hold until a moderator or an administrator approves of the post. No one will be able to view the post while it is put on hold.
NOTE: Authors of the post will be able to edit their post during this mode.

- Delete: If the administrator or moderator chooses this option, the post will be deleted and an e-mail will be sent to the poster of the message, informing them that their post was not approved. The administrator/moderator will be able to give their reason for not approving the post in the e-mail.
